• HDR moves to Bass House
• Reggae vocal, used chopped
• Nostalgic drop, reminding of TV Noise
To my knowledge, most readers here might be well-acquainted with the fact of how House District Records managed to become a promising Big Room label on the scene. With no releases that interested me directly this weekend, they surprised me with a Bass House tune (something uncommon on their schedule), that is not only nostalgic, but represents true intensity stored within the bass.
I left the mentioned genre for a while, since it stared sounding the same with repetitive Tech House-y productions, but this one here got me all warmed up. Reminds me of better times, when STMPD was frequently releasing a lot of engaging stuff from Blinders and TV Noise.
Talking about the instrumental, it begins with an old-school reggae vocal, after which drop does a “bombastic” performance. The mythical flute, characteristic snares and kicks; all packed to deliver the punch I was expecting. Honestly, this drop got me vibing and made me appreciate it, almost as a sort of “fresh comeback” with creative twists on the following drop, such as reducing the pitch of the vocal drops and modifying them to a more Wiwek-like signature.
All being said, “SmokeUp” is a red-hot production that will leave the bass fans gratified just as it caught me by surprise!
