Blinders – RAV APPEAL (EP)

February 12, 20224 min read

The tag of “Future Rave”, as opined by two very notable acts involved at the mainstream front, has presented us with a brand new flavor of festival music. However, the nomenclature should equally act as an umbrella term for other efforts, one such done persistently by Blinders. The STMPD signed producer has, time and time again, innovated himself and helped pioneer the sound brandished by the Dutch imprint of his choice, in association with talented names like Seth Hills, Loopers, and others.

To commemorate the Polish producer’s latest EP, zealously titled “RAV APPEAL”, this article will shortly go over the rather explosive contents with brevity. Here goes:

Pressure (Wanna Feel Good)

The opening moments are where the said creator wants to emphasize his eccentric mélange of sounds – a snappy mix of the gritty ghetto and electro house (reminded me of Ibranovski somehow), running over a tribal beat foundation. The tastefully old-school minimalism derived from mindful sampling is ever-present throughout the song. Energetic opener!

Android Dance

Continuing into the brilliant niche he has carved out, “Android Dance” extends with a similar hulking pace, in tune with a delectable female vocal and knocking set of drums following a linear pattern. The weird yet industrial tone isn’t aplenty with synths, but when it does, those are rather abrasive and detuned to great degrees.

Body Burner

Having already supplemented with inflammatory material so far, “Body Burner” brings about a change of pace- opting for a boomier tech house signature, it follows an all too familiar construction of Musical Freedom-esque releases, served in Blinder’s flair obviously. Although I felt it doesn’t stand out as much in the EP, that doesn’t diminish or detract from the flow established so far.

Lost Control

Diverging towards Techno from here out, this record entertains with pulsating and acidic rave basslines and thuddy kickdrums. The ambience gets further scant, only including the female vocal snippet and the metallic lead riffs. Underground influences are abundantly evident, a characteristic Blinders loves to imbue in his signature.

Blind Love

In an unanticipated turn of events, there’s a detour towards the hypnotic realm of deeper and melodic techno. Slowing down, a syncopated riff hovers over hazy vocals and muted pad synths, often accompanied by strings to equally sentimentalize the final outcome. Here as well, Blinders boldly puts his rave timbre, fusing distinct styles creatively.

Rav Appeal

My intentions of covering this at the end are only because of its merit, not otherwise. “Rav Appeal” is a vicious club anthem, filled with rapidly quickfire of stabbing synths and robotically processed vocals, altogether becoming a dystopian and moody belter. Its fast, relentless and striking techno-oriented patterns, periodically hyped up by shouts of “Don’t Sleep” would efficiently demolish any dancefloor or crowd if given a spin.
