Dopamine & Night Owl – Fear Is A Choice

October 6, 20212 min read

• Rampant mid-intro
• Hypnotic and dark atmosphere
• Stunning melodic drops

Here we are, again: October has just arrived with summer phasing out of our lives, as we go on about our usual jobs and routines. Feeling the blues? Tired perhaps? Don’t you worry, I know the perfect medication: “Hardstyle”. Dopamine and Night Owls’ latest conception, “Fear Is A Choice”, is a brutal and rampaging record that will supply you plenty with the vitality to continue through an otherwise drowsy morning!

From the very first moment of the track, the producers made their intentions crystal clear. A short build-up gives away to the mid-intro, which unleashes its power as soon as the first beat starts. Wild screeches and an even crazier kick-drum variations provide a lovely harshness that make it ferocious, as every mid-intro should be. Right after that, a solemn speech accompanies us through a mysterious breakdown that introduces to the melody in a subtle and suitable way.

Even if I was entertained greatly from the above-mentioned part, the quality of the melodic drops are outstanding. A balanced kick supports an unpredictable and obscure hook, played by a typical lead from the genre. Based on a well-executed and simple concept, the idea here is solid and engaging. The last climax deserves its own mention, as it presents a different riff that brings forth the needed freshness before conclusion.

Hardstyle has always been admirable to me: even if I don’t produce it as much, it takes a major part of my daily listening. Thanks to this, I noticed that the top songs of this domain aren’t as creative anymore. The structures and the sounds are almost copycat to each other, ensuring revenues, yet impeding development of the genre. Fortunately enough, there are still young minds who have the guts to explore newer concepts, while not deterring from the roots. That being said, my utmost thanks to those who are trying to do so!
