Xjcode & Ez Quew – Mirror

May 18, 20192 min read

• Drop emanates festive vibes
• Engaging vocal breakdown
• Exuberant and dynamic persona

We have introduced Ez Quew in the past; the Swedish talent has impressed us previously with his tracks radiating sparkling, zestful, and energetic caliber. I have observed a trend – Music by artists hailing from Nordic nations generally have these traits in common. Putting aside the stupendous number of EDM legends originating from there, this “happy” style is also present in other minor artists I’m following, like Samlight. I’d love to see these artists collaborate!

While we’ve been following Ez Quew for some time, Xjcode is a discovery for us, despite him being around for quite some time! The Dutch artist has some independent releases on his curriculum, and he’s skilled with melodic productions of various genres!

Speaking about their latest work “Mirror”, I must admit that this ear-candy tune stirred me! Familiar to the artist, I was expecting another powerful and joyful piece, but to our pleasant surprise, it isn’t so predictable! “Mirror” presents an alluring drop that offers an array of genre influences altogether, mainly consistent of Future Bounce, Future House, and Melodic Progressive House. Xjcode’s cynosure on melodies coupled with Ez Quew’s enchanting sensations resulted in a compelling combination! A delicate, yet lovely vocal performance by an uncredited singer in the breakdown helps the listener unwind and balances the sweet & spice ratio. This relaxed section is suddenly interrupted by energetic supersaws and a quick experiment with vocal chops. The vocal chops seem too underdeveloped (it has only about 5 seconds throughout the track). I believe it’s better to develop all elements to their maximum extent or not to use the feature at all, but that’s just my two cents.

Anyway, “Mirror” is a cool future house song. The skill and hard work of the two producers are evident in the track which fuses their styles and makes an exciting product. Satisfying composition.
