Olly James – Movin’ Too Fast

• Alluring Future House twist
• Charming vocal from Harrison (uncredited)
• Modernistic, yet nostalgic

While the days of sunshine and intense is almost at its dusk for this year, it seems that the notable DJ/Producers are taking no hiatus from providing a further score of hits for this season. Today our attention will be singularly upon the reputed British talent Olly James, who has lately shown adequacy in crafting distinctive Festival tools. Deviating from his conventional Electro/Bass House approach, the rising solo act has decided to venture into the alluring depths of Future House. Titled as “Movin’ Too Fast”, the track also involves the renowned English vocalist Harrison.

Sampling has been an imminent form of inspiration among many contemporary names in the industry. Today’s highlight of this article also is a specimen to it, making the instrumental even more appealing. Actually inspired from creation of the existing English power-band of Artful Dodger, the original spent a decent amount of time on the British Dance music charts, just before the dawn of this century. The Garage single featured the nostalgic breakbeat with chiming synth presence, along with the leading (and memorable) vocal from Romina Johnson, which gave it an even more hooking capacity than expected.

Fast forward to two decades almost, and we have the comtempo version to talk about. Olly James used his ingenuity here, efficiently taking the original hook and translating it into his own take. The breakdown introduces the pitched-down version of Harrison’s vocal, working with the familiar cadence and tinkling sounds. However, the aftermath of this segment leads to the modernistic drop section, which recruits bright-saw synths shuffling to an almost distinctive melody (perhaps partly inspired by its precursor). The vibrant pace works right from the get-go, delivering an elegant and enticing tone effortlessly!

To sum it all up, “Movin’ Too Fast” captures the best from its predecessor, while providing an equally fresh and club-friendly twist on the indelible work from the past!
