The trap world often delights me with creative and unpredictable productions, and that’s one of the reasons why, after a brief period of hesitance, I’m quite into it! An excellent example of what I’m talking about is portrayed by “Champion“, the new Tribal Trap release by DJ ARCHITECT, one half of the experienced duo WRECKVGE.
The Serbian producer managed to produce many interesting creations with his solo project, and today I’m here talking about it. After various independent releases (amongst which I suggest checking out “Earthquake“, an interesting experiment), “Champion” represents his debut on TT. I was immediately impressed by the drop, which features a signature low pitched, mumbled vocal. Despite being almost imperceptible here, I’ve heard it in other releases (for examples “Rotten“) by the same artist, and I must admit that it has charming potential. These mumbled words, present in the break as well, represent an addition to the overall personality that I appreciated.
The segment follows a complex structure, somewhat challenging to handle in the beginning. But I managed to get into its vibes after a couple of listens. There are various elements, fused in an explosive combination. The drums were on point, and I liked the strings, they suddenly added elegance to the mix.
The breakdown, then, features a hybrid between a sweet voice, the already described loop and another combination of percussions, slowly increasing the climax. Simple concept, but it works. Luckily it was a short section because its minimalism didn’t particularly impress me.
To round it all up, “Champion” is the “ID” of DJ ARCHITECT, a great way to show the signature style of his solo alias to many fans via one of the most important labels in the genre. I think it passed the frontier check with a well-composed combination of a unique personality, a couple of risks, and a captivating structure. I’m sure we will hear again from DJ ARCHITECT.
