• Classic progressive house formula
• Charming quality in every element
• Sweet and delicate vocal
Another day, another progressive house review for you guys! I know that we’re too iterative with this genre, but something about the latest releases is incentivizing me. I promise to mix things up in the coming future!
“Supernova” by Blackcode and Kosling, released on Proximity was irresistible to me. The dynamism of its melody and its energetic personality hooked me to the song since the first time I heard it. This progressive release features the vocal from Alessa that I truly enjoyed; there’s a peculiar amenability in her voice!
The label, Proximity, isn’t exactly in my good books. I’m generally hesitant when it comes to voguish YouTube channels considering their approach towards the organization. Most of them seem to release a lot of music, abusing the power of their large fanbase to get a lot of streams to their releases. Although it is highly effective, I prefer quality over quantity. That being said is, of course, my personal opinion, which is also influenced by heavy prejudices. From what I’ve heard from other producers, these channels aren’t paying much attention to the singles that they release.
Regardless, the music takes preference here. Kosling already has four releases on Proximity (and a great collab with Thomas Gold on Protocol, which we previously reviewed), while it’s a debut for Blackcode, an Italian artist who already managed to impress us with a handful of delicate productions on Revealed.dj. Both of these artists craft the bracket of progressive house I like: Solid, energetic, unescorted by too many frills and that infused passion which makes everything magical. “Supernova” follows this scheme, without any surprises (which is what I was expecting to hear – an unforeseeable element) but with quality. True quality. Every aspect, vocal included, works well and is systematically produced, resulting in an output that is prominent and pleasant to the ears. It’s not precisely “festival-oriented”, but it suits a moment when you want to hear something relaxing yet energetic enough.
What do you think?
