• Perfect moment: when the drop begins
• Crazy vocal part by George Gleeson
• Impressive sound quality, dynamic and energetic structure
I listen to tons of progressive house, but Jesus Christ “Picture Frame” is ASTONISHING. If you go around checking my reviews, you will see that I’m the more “severe” reviewer, I rarely give more than 80 to a song. Today I’m assigning a 92 to this banger by Herflex and George Gleeson, and I’m happy to do so.
For the new fans, a 90+ is a song that gives us goosebumps, and we assign such a high rating only when we are really in love with the production. Herflex from Slovenia reached super close to what I consider perfection in a progressive house composition. Personally, this is a song that has everything I want, considering that it follows a standard structure… Its quality, the energy, that unexpected moment when the drop begins to play, left me speechless. It has that bouncy explosion of sounds that I can’t even dare to describe: it simply gave me goosebumps. Herflex worked hard on the sound design, and “Picture Frame” hit the targets.
What about George Gleeson? It’s the first time that I heard this singer, but his voice fits perfectly in there: it added that classic sweet touch to the composition and it’s one of my favourite performances in 2019.
The only thing I can complain about is the lack of the “uniqueness” capable of making “Picture Frame” perfect. It follows a classic formula. However, it’s doing that pretty well; let’s be honest! Only a handful of artists have been able to impress me so much with a progressive house track as much as Herflex did, and they are considered legends (or were, right, Alesso?).
Tracks like “Picture Frame” are the reason I keep reviewing. This is pure talent and needs to be shared around. Thank you, Herflex and George Gleeson!
