Borgore x AFK – Jimmy’s Rage

March 24, 20182 min read

80/100

Renowned dance music producer Borgore has made quite the powerful production lately. Teaming up with the uprising talent Icelandic talent AFK, the resultant of this collaboration is a song containing raging screeching wobbles and hitting drums, named “Jimmy’s Rage”. Borgore, during the years, always showed a funny sense of humour and a passion for video games… That’s the main topic of “Jimmy’s Rage”: the song is talking about a mysterious boy called Jimmy. With a quick look at the cover, you can easily understand what’s the cause and the result of Jimmy’s Rage: a video game, PUBG being precise.

Starting with a slower pace, the song develops intensity right from the first second. The backdrop of this intro consists of distorted samples, which makes the progression interesting. With a minimal yet dominant attitude, the song paces towards the riser. An expected usual riser comes in the scene, fading in, precisely transitioning to the drop, which showcases even more energy and vigour. The pre-drop vocal, which says “no fucking way” is actually “AFK… likely dying”. GENIAL.

Sweeping in, the drop presents distinctive dubstep synths playing out a pitched up melody, while the background elements assist it with peppiness. Suitably armed with detailed variations in the melody, the drop showcases even more dynamics than expected. The swirling attribute of the drop injects a lot of dynamism and certainly engages the listener.

In a few words, “Jimmy’s Rage”, apart from being an energetic and explosive dubstep tune, is creative and unpredictable, as most of Borgore’s idea. Even if it exhibits some expected trap/dubstep elements, the proficient utilization by this pair of talented producers does the trick. Also, watching the music video is heavily suggested!
