Klavis – Success Killer

October 21, 20182 min read

74/100

• Catchy chords, with a pinch of sweetness
• Delicate vocal chops
• Mike Williams influences

This 17-year old Italian producer already impressed us with a couple of future bass releases (including “The New Ghost“), and it feels so good seeing that he’s finally on the Spinnin’ Talent Pool!

“Success Killer” is the beginning of Klavis’ adventure in the future house world. A simple yet refreshing bouncy tune, easy to enjoy, full of potential. The comparison is with Mike Williams, who began his career in the Dutch label in a similar way, with the use of comparable vocals and chords, is a natural conclusion, but Klavis has his own personality.

Slight tropical vibes are present in the drop, which fuses relaxing and energetic vibes together, thanks to the unusual kind of melody, the calm piano and the delicate high pitched vocal. “Success Killer” presents a simple melody, that we found rather hypnotic. In this kind of future house, melodies are usually quite energetic, so this approach initially left us surprised…

The notes do not follow a complex path but relax the ears with an almost minimal structure. Sometimes, the simplest approach is the one that works better.

It’s the same case with the vocal: even though we usually dislike highly pitched sounds, Klavis handled it with intelligence, without using them excessively. It’s more of a “fill” rather than a real vocal and adds a particular chilly mood to the tropical-influenced drop. The breakdown could have presented more personality, sure, but we prefer an emptier section rather than a dominance of annoying vocal chops.

In conclusion, “Success Killer” is a catchy tune that does its job: presenting Klavis to the Spinnin’ audience. We are curious to see his next move!
