We know that. DJ Mag’s top 100 DJs is a useless, unfair, manipulated list. It’s a poll about popularity, not about music quality. Music is subjective and ranking such a complex and different concept like the EDM universe is impossible, so today we won’t complain about producers that deserved more, but to producers that, IN OUR PERSONAL OPINION, shouldn’t be at their current spots for obvious reasons.
1. The Technological Bros (2nd spot)
In 2018, apart of an average Tomorrowland EP and a couple of pop hits, the brothers didn’t do anything special for confirming this second spot. Quite a disappointing years. Despite the new rules about Ipads, designed only because of them, there are strong suspects that something fishy happened… For the fourth year in a row.
2. R£HAB (12th spot)
We already explained the problem with R3HAB in another article. Nothing more to add.
3. Alok (13th spot)
Considered one of the most important names of Brazilian Bass in the past, he is making reggaeton and similia right now. Looks like a good artist, really popular in South America, but such a high position is extremely suspicious.
4. Avicii (15th spot)
We appreciate the kindness of the voters, but it’s not legit at all to put an already non-working artist in this list. It would be way better to make a tribute place for him, but the people at DJ Mag didn’t have enough brain to think about that. Rest in peace, Tim.
5. DVBBS (16th spot)
They (lol) made some bangers in the past, but right now they are quite unnoticed. I think that their position is pretty self-explanatory, 20 spots higher than the moment they were the most discussed artists around, after Tsunami. Flexing their money and weed gave them so many votes? We doubt about it.
6. CTRL+VINAI (26th spot)
Speaking about VINAI is like shooting a fish in a barrel. A couple of poppish tunes and a decent collab with Hardwell are not enough for explaining this position… Maybe their bodies were more relevant than their music in order to judge them.
7. Diego Miranda (50th spot)
Boomshakalak, released on Revealed Recordings, and Slumber, released on Smash The House, were his major label releases this year. He is famous in Portugal, sure, but… does he really deserve the 50th place of the list?
8. MATTN (72th spot)
Is it enough to be Dimitri Vegas’ wife in order to appear in a DJ list? Of course it is, here you have it. That’s simply fantastic.
9. DJ L (84th spot)
Dj Chetas part 2, we have already seen this story. Nobody knows him, he has an embarrassingly low amount of fans in his socials and he doesn’t have any releases on major labels. Genius.
10. The amount of importance given to it.
We decided to make this article because we want to expose the producers that, in our opinion, shouldn’t be there. But we are aware that this list is just a giant joke, and people should consider it as what it is. Don’t get angry if your idol isn’t number 1, because in the end, music is subjective. DJ Mag won’t change anything.
What do you think?
