Summer is winding down, but I guess that the heat will be with us for at least a couple more weeks. The title of the track I’m reviewing today, “So High“, could perfectly describe the temperatures of any city in the South of Europe, but I think that Averion and Fenyn weren’t thinking of that while creating this song. Instead, they managed to create a fresh and emotional hardstyle summer anthem.
The break starts with a typical and hackneyed guitar sound, but the chord progression is a really good one, I wasn’t expecting that at all. The other main character on the break is the vocal, which does its job well, especially when it gets backed by some vocoded chords. After that, we can hear for the first time a preview of the leads and the main melody, which will be discussed in the next paragraph.
Some artists create a trend when they come up with an original and cool sound, and Adrenalize left his footprint on the hardstyle scene when he developed that characteristic lead that is made of distorted pieces of a vocal (Get Up, 2018). These German guys decided to go with that type of sound, and I must admit that it really suits the tune in this particular case. Being accompanied by pumping chords and a strong kick, it makes the drops really stand out.
