Paris Blohm Renewed (Again!)

October 31, 20202 min read

My peculiar intrigue towards Paris Blohm’s discography has never faded, mostly because of this passionate image on social media and the efficient way he creates hype. Most old-timers here will remember him best by “Left Behind”, undeniably a hit in the electronic scene. Considered a master of the genre, Blohm then followed with a hiatus of sorts: fifteen tracks/remixes since 2014, twice a year. Putting aside his interludes, and even if I believe more in “quality over quantity”, the question remains hanging: is this quality, or just a lot of hype?

With bold statements like “I am back with a new sound”, followed with two Future Bass releases and then another break. Not abating here, he claims about “making progressive real again!” which are substantiated with average releases on Revealed, pause. His latest attempt of “I am back with my real sound” entailed with just groovier variants of the same. Paris knows how to draw attention on internet, especially among long-term fans like me. But as one knows, high expectations is risky business, and I was still hoping for more works and follow-ups than “They Say” and then the new single on Thrive, “Waiting”. Even if this calibre is an initial step, the lacking consistency is one taken back in this creative motive.

The feeling that Paris Blohm, although he has proved his talent and amazing personality many times, keeping an utmost transparency with his fans about well-being, is lost can’t be shaken. He lacks a real strategy, especially after five years of discontinuities and different approaches, I still cannot comprehend if this time it is befitting. That, or will he disappear again, abandoning another potential on the road to be forgotten.

For the moment, I will enjoy “Waiting” for it has the good vibes and a well-built bassline, and I will patiently wait for Paris’ future steps. It is perhaps too early to judge, but I will leave this article here, mostly to keep my anticipations in check.
