This decision caught me off-guard, as the Amsterdam based act seemed to be in a great form lately (“Harmony” was one of my favorite releases), although it’s crucial to underline how important mental health is in this scenario. In the post, Mike talks about “all these things didn’t make me as happy as they should”. An emotional block like that is a tip of the iceberg of issues that come with a demanding job like his.
After what happened with Avicii, we can’t let artists live in this stressful environments and expect a hundred percent from them, all the times. I am glad to see more and more names opening up and prioritizing their health. From Blasterjaxx’s Idir to Hardwell, more and more people in the industry are taking the bold but necessary move for taking breaks.
In a world where quantity beats quality, one can’t forget the workaholic life necessary for DJs, who often have as much as 300+ gigs annually, dozens of releases that require multiple revisions pre-release to meet targets, content management for social media and more. This obviously leads for little to no time for a private life. With that said, we wish the best for Mike and sincerely hope that he can rejuvenate and come back stronger than ever!
