After 6 months of one of the strangest years in human’s history, with an ongoing global pandemic, we can try to be positive and analyze what happened in the EDM scene.
These are some of our conclusions for this period:
- Streaming Services consolidated their fundamental position: now everything, from songs’ durations to release dates, is orbiting around them and their godly curators.
- TikTok is becoming extremely relevant between the younger audience: being a social media focused on music, it’s natural that artists are interested.
- Slap House is the trending genre of this first half: artists like Dynoro became viral in the previous year with this bouncy Future House-inspired structure… Now, obviously, everybody are jumping on the bandwagon.
- We assisted to a slow comeback to oldschool House sounds as well, more underground and less “mainstream”. it’s something that is going on for a while, but the trend is evident.
- Between labels, STMPD and Rave Culture have definitively gained a lot of importance: the first is more experimental, with a wide range of genres, while the W&W imprint focuses on classic Festival vibes. Surprising enough, STMPD set the rules for this year’s design guidelines.
- Speaking about design, we can observe the same STMPD-inspired structure over and over again: bold and repeated text, 3D models or grunge/realistic textures, dark tones and nonlinear structure.
- Because of the virus, online festivals, often set up in videogames such as Minecraft and Fortnite, and livestreams have become a necessary reality. Fascinating and futuristic concept that will be further developed in the second half of the year.
- Overall, we have a confused year, with some new trends and, obviously, difficulties caused by the pandemic. The world has changed, and it will take a while before observing all the conseguences. No one knows what will happen.
