• Classic Big Room structure, aggressive and energetic
• Nothing new, but excellent quality: we are speaking about a master of the genre
• Comeback to the “Safe Zone” for Quintino
Quintino is back on Spinnin’ Records, and this time, surprise surprise… He released a Festival anthem, “Switch Back“, a follow up of “Heey Ya!” (2018). The Dutch creator has rarely demonstrated creativity with titles, but this time we shouldn’t complain, since we can notice a “comeback” to his 2014 Big Room roots. A wise move!
In fact, in 2020 Quintino didn’t particularly convince his fanbase because of a couple of commercial releases. His most recent work, “Get You Home” (what were we saying about titles? Ugh) was a predictable Slap House craft that received many critics on social. Thus, we can understand this return to the comfort zone in “Switch Back”.
I’ve been follow Quintino for the past 7 years, and I notice his shifts into new signatures after 2016, where he focused on other genres beside his classic Big Room. Commercial singles apart, the Dutch creator follows unpredictable patterns, sometimes experimenting with other genres, sometimes bringing back classic vibes.
Let’s talk a bit about “Switch Back”, then. The Latin sax gets introduced immediately, while the main lead of the song is extremely similar to “Heey Ya”. More or less, “Switch Back” follows the same, typical schema, with a captivating building and Big Room supersaws hitting hard in the drop. One could admit that this structure is boring, but Quintino is one of the masters of the genre and knows what to do. The production is well constructed, entertains easily, and delivers some oldschool energy!
At the end of the story, “Switch Back” is suitable for a festival and for a noisy party, an harmless tune in Quintino’s safe zone. It’s an improvement compard to his recent works, but we know this artist, and we are sure that he will try something else next time.
