TikTok – Exposing New Talents?

April 15, 20202 min read

TikTok is a controversial platform which has been both supported and despised for its amount of rather frivolous videos and memes, but today we will be talking about its impact on the music industry. A lot of current and trending songs associate with outlandish challenges or viral videos from the Chinese social network. In all of this, the question is whether dance music benefits from this.

TikTok

Along with unprecedented growth of modern-day pop hits on the app, there has been further overwhelming popularity on genres like Brazilian Bass and Slap House, with artists such as Alok, Regard, Dynoro and more having racked up millions of views. This has motivated many producers to upload their new releases to TikTok, to which many have gained the requisite traction. In addition, we observed a growth of challenges and related dances, aimed to make the songs viral. Most of the times these actions are coordinated by marketing experts, but TikTok seems to reward many minor producers, who gain unexpected fame with catchy productions. There is potential here, especially because it’s still new and it has been labelled by many professionals as a “not serious” social channel, thus the competition is lower compared to the others. Considering that the entire structure of TikTok is completely based on music, it can be an interesting piece of the puzzle in the EDM scene.

Thus, we admit being out of target for TikTok, but let’s not forget that it’s one of the fastest-growing social media! Producers should keep an eye on this young-oriented social channel.
