Matt Lender – Just Smile

March 2, 20202 min read

• Postively and alluringly themed
• Funky and soulful vibes
• Finer nuances in the instrumental

If one reflects on the history of Dance music, the genre of House has a modest lineage from the existing evergreens like Disco and synth-pop. Mostly the former, making the mentioned vintage domain of electronic music so perpetually refreshing. With most modernist music producers focusing on the bass-heavy contemporary format, there are a select few who embrace the roots of this style. Our today’s highlight is a newer alias Matt Lender, whose début happened to be revealed on this Friday. Embracing the recognised cordial and funky Disco, “Just Smile” not only centres around an exuberant theme, but equivalently delivers alluring and nostalgic vibes throughout!

Matt Lender is not a first-timer on our blog, per se. Starting out as Mattjax back in 2013, the Dutch composer caught our attention with his track “Universe” (which got a splendid remix from Tom Crusher). Racking up supports from renowned acts like David Guetta and Hardwell, the solo outfit leaned more and more towards nu-Disco in the past recent years. Signed on esteemed labels such as Disco:wax and 12th Floor records (both subsidiaries of Sony Music), he has definitely shown mettle for this spectrum of industry.

Explaining the blueprint would not be much efficient since this sort of instrumental is more reliant on the ongoing groove. “Just Smile” initiates with an unmistakable funky and soulful vibe, sublime cadence assisting the vocal. Thanks to the appealing voice and laid-back composition working alongside playful guitar and bass licks, “JustSmile”‘s meticulously concocted structure finer nuances throwbacks to the seventies.

This being said, this nouveau project from the Dutch native has demonstrated his sheer passion for versatility, as we hope to hear more such flamboyant creations.
