EDM, sometimes, is magic. Thousands of people noticed it yesterday when SHM reunites again, but today we will talk about a different type of magic.
“Universe” is a great progressive song by Aylen Parks and Mattjax. Released through Revealed.dj, (Hardwell’s platform for new talents), we somehow missed it and noticed its existence only when the remix came out. So, this review speaks about a wonderful future house remix by Tom Crusher, but we can’t ignore the excellent quality of the original collaboration!
Aylen Parks and Tom Crusher has always been an efficient duo (let’s not forget their various collabs together, like “Never Back Down”) so a Tom’s edit of the song was one of the most predictable things ever. The Hungarian talent reworked the sweet original progressive into a future house dynamic production… Quite a surprise, for us, used to his aggressive electro house approach, but it’s normal, being “Universe” already emotional and calm.
Tom crusher put his hands on Rosendale’s gorgeous vocal, creating a spectacular vocal chopped melody. That’s the particular that impressed us the most: the vocal chops structure. There aren’t many things to say: it’s incredibly energetic. Usually, vocal chops add a “relaxing” mood to a song (with some exceptions)… Here, they somehow add aggressiveness to an already strong future house/bounce drop.
However, the final result is lightweight and dynamic. It’s hard to categorize this remix, being a hybrid between future house and future bounce, with progressive influences from the original songs and a future bass vocal chops style. Particular, yet extremely balanced.
Sure, the break may slightly lack in personality, but the second drop saved this problem with a slight trap twist.
In conclusion, this “Universe” remix is interesting, emotional, and very enjoyable. We recommend to not make our same mistake (ignoring the original version), and we must thanks Tom Crusher for making us discover both versions. Picking our favourite is such a hard choice!
