Felegs & Slake Slagger – Free

November 22, 20212 min read

• Old-school schematics
• Impacting drop, outstanding melody
• Melancholic piano

This time around, I didn’t ask the members of our Discord server for the monthly community’s choice, leading to a slight guilt for the crazy tunes they suggested. This month however, I am focusing on the promo channel. What is it about, you ask? As the name suggests, artists send their newest songs and we take a listen for feedback and possible feature on a future article. The opening tune for such is from Felegs and Slake Slagger. And of course, thanks to Felegs for sending it.

The highlight of this record, the vocal stands out along with the melody being uncannily attractive, which leads to a delicate commence. For the schematics, there is some obvious inspiration from Matisse & Sadko. Adding a clever twist is the piano in the build-up, and who could refuse such offer for more emotional depth? It is a heartwarming presence to win the listener’s appreciation even before the show begins.

After this rather striking transitional phase, the other noteworthy thing is the amount of elements being used in the instrumental. The ambience is worth the talk with its grand orchestration such as violins, drums and others. It very much has the energy to charge up the audience, while not losing its softer side.

With its atypical cadence and distinguished approach, “Free” is a liberating experience that reminds one of the electric festival arenas with its brutal but sublime drop. Incredible surprise coming from two uprising names!
