Apashe – Work (ft. Young Buck)

March 4, 20203 min read

• The perfect, unique blend between Oldschool rap and Apashe “sacred” structure.

Apashe has been that one artist for whom I have grown an immense admiration over time, thanks to his incredible signature style. But this time he totally went over any expectation, with the American artist presenting a riveting hybrid of trap and dubstep, alongside evident religious influences. Listening to one of his songs, one will immediately notice the mystical chants and the elegant synths he utilizes, often aided by wrecking brutal dubstep growls. We reviewed his single “Majesty” some time ago, and I keep getting impressed by this approach!

A new album, “Renaissance”, is along the way, with four singles already released. There are more urban, hip-hop influences, with new, talented vocalists: the last of the list is Nashville-based Young Buck, who delivers an insane performance in “Work“.

Like every ninety-plus, there is no dearth of goosebumps, which is prominent in the unique breakdown, where the trademark elegance gets an old-school hip-hop mood (classic Eminem vibes, that’s what I thought) makeover, and a welcoming drop where the bassline drilled my ears like they were made entirely of wax, ready to melt after its sermon. Young Buck is a fantastic choice: his warm, catchy voice is perfect for this kind of atmosphere. We are speaking about a classy enactment here, emphasized by that constant hard-hitting base. I have no idea where Apashe finds these elements, but they work with anything and everything!

The producer managed the schematics in an efficient way, playing around with rap and his unmistakable brass plus chants organisation in the drop. Speaking about it, the first one emphasised the bassline, a finer detail I truly love for its surplus energy, while the second one chooses to be more experimental. The style of the bass, as said, adds the cherry on the cake.

I swear, I could commend about “Work” for even longer, but I’ll leave you with a simple but concluding phrase.

“Work” is one of the most uncommon tunes I’ve ever heard in my life, with a unique atmosphere and a even unique idea. Straight up masterpiece, for me.
