Blasterjaxx & Olly James – Life Is Music

December 14, 20192 min read

• Hard-hitting old-school formula
• Slightly more melodic imprint by Olly James
• Well-crafted production, bittersweet after-experience

Blasterjaxx are pretty straightforward with their titles. “Big Room Never Dies“, “Music Is Our Religion“… Is there even any dearth of fervour in this Dutch heavyweights!

After the well-received “Phoenix“, the endeared duet has a new creation along with the British horsepower Olly James, undoubtedly on Maxximize. This time “Blasterjames” tried with a more underground blueprint. “Life Is Music” blinks an eye to the 2012’s repetitious, less melodic focused and mainly driven
on basslines.

This is well composed, especially in the new version where Olly James’ touch is more evident. Some fans were preferring the older melody, but these are subjective decisions. Personally, I’m more into melodic stuff, but I know that Blasterjaxx aren’t contented if they don’t unveil a retrograde styled banger, at least once a year. I must admit that releases like “Big Bird” delighted me for their huge amount of energy, balancing with the unappealing melodic scheme.

It’s the same exemplar with “Life Is Music”, which features a tried and tested concept. Straightforward drop, with minimal obscurity in notes and hard-hitting bassline, climax-building breakdown, and the second drop. They aren’t evidently changing the overall idea any further, but the result is still peppy and vitalizing.

Speaking about that, I profoundly appreciated how Olly James adeptly added some of his touch in the breakdown, making it more harmonic.
The lead, in addition, is a hybrid infused between the classic leads and Blasterjaxx’s signature ones with something new.

“Music Is Life” goes in accord with the club schematics, which will surely work well when played live. Personally, I presume I’ll listen to it perhaps more than a week, however getting rapidly jaded by these arrangements. I felt a diminutive sense of bittersweet taste following the experience, as this isn’t the case where I immediately fell in love. Let’s be honest, these guys are virtuoso in this art. However, I suppose it is high time to see more experimentations and alterations in this field, in the coming future.
