Marcus Santoro & Sentinel – Shine

• Vibrant vocal presence
• Alluring synth selection
• Elegant and euphonic schematics

Last week we penned down our thoughts for the newest release in the esteemed Dutch label Protocol Recordings, featuring Trilane and the label-head Nicky Romero himself. Not less than seven days have passed, and we have yet another splendid work to talk about from this very imprint. This time, the renowned Australian DJ/Producer Marcus Santoro teamed with up and coming triad Sentinel. The pleasant resultant so devised by this talented group has been named as “Shine“, and staying true to the title, this production does not deviate away from delivering alluring and sprightly doses of festival vibes.

Listening to any specific production from Marcus Santoro, the leading solo act has established his recognizable signature sound for Progressive House and Trance genre. We discussed recently about him when he unveiled “Memento” in Flashover Recordings, a melodic and atmospheric production with pulsating basslines and chiming synth combination. Talking about the other half of the joint-effort, Sentinel have gathered support from various heavyweights in the industry so far, with the likes of Steve Angello and Third Party (they have already been signed on Release Records, owned by the latter). The Melbourne natives have further been on Armada imprint, with this being their début in Protocol.

Talking about the instrumental, the breakdown synths extend a warm welcome to the ears with familiar sonorous Arp synth. Along with that, a soulful addition to the production, charming vocal snippets materialize, enhancing the nuances further. A concoction of these two primary elements leads up to the oncoming drop section. Sweeping in with elegance, this segment extends intensity of the repetitive synth from earlier, paired with swelling pads and rushing bassline. The melodic hook employed creatively strike the right notes, touching the highs subtly. Without taking the usual speedier and paced riff style some adopt while crafting this genre, this resorts to a slower but opulent canorous arrangement.
As our finalizing thoughts, we would say that “Shine” checks on the requisite boxes, filled with hypnotic and entrancing vibes one could expect. Quite a refreshing tune, all credits due to the involved dynamic artists we mentioned.
