Finally, we have a new Martin Garrix song, this time in collaboration with his friend Loopers! “Game Over” really amazed us because of its unpredictable underground vibe, the catchiness, and the message that Martin wanted to send us by releasing this long-awaited collaboration!
First of all, loyal fans can already notice a detail in the title. Garrix, for an unknown reason, loves using words of the electronic world as names for some of his releases (“Byte”, “Torrent”, “Virus”, “Proxy”, “Error 404”, etc…). Once again, we have an infomatic reference, this time related to videogames.
You don’t fool anyone by playing tennis in the official video Martin, we know that it’s not related to that!
Anyway, the second surprise is seeing Loopers on STMPD, with his underground wild electro sounds the Dutch producer built a reputation on WOLV (Dyro’s label), and this week has released a collab with Steve Aoki (“Pika Pika”) and Martin Garrix! Quite a splendid week for him, isn’t it?
Anyway, “Game Over” delights us with a new set of sounds for STMPD: there is the so-called “Dyro influence” in the Loopers’ drop (with a couple of fills by Garrix that make me think about “Tremor”), while Martin created a wonderful break! It’s vibrant, with a high-pitched voice that, quite miraculously, doesn’t annoy but adds some sort of tension, that climax, that energy that only a mastermind like him can create. The break is revolutionary. It shows that the “soft” Garrix style can also fit with an example of underground-dark electro house, so far away from STMPD’s standards. Unbelievable.
Anyway, the drop didn’t completely shine for us, for both Loopers and Garrix’s standards, but it’s extremely interesting. Creative, fresh, with a sensational work on the vocal distortions. During some moments it sounds a bit weak & dispersive for us, but the duo managed to entertain with a good and intriguing idea!
In conclusion, “Game Over” is a really good collaboration.
We are happy to see Martin Garrix presenting different and underrated sounds to STMPD’s fans… And to see Loopers achieving some deserved success, and for the scene which seems to be appreciating this experimentation!
What do you think?
