• Transcendent blend of all of the trio’s styles
• Exotic, mysterious breakdown

Triple collaborations in EDM are quite unusual indeed, and when they do crop up, they often come with massive expectations. This Friday saw the release of a collaboration between JETFIRE, Wasback and REGGIO, titled “Cathedral”, via KSHMR’s acclaimed Dharma Worldwide label. A progressive house tune with an eerie twist, “Cathedral” combines a hint of dark progressive with a bouncy bassline. With novel elements such as a haunting string section (preceded by a wonderful vocal choir), this tune is definitely one of my favorites this year.

One of the best parts about this one is the fact that it’s a great blend of all three artists’ styles, something that you don’t find to be true that often when it comes to collaborations between three or more artists.
Reggio made his mark with the dark progressive buildup with subtle plucks that shine through the mix. Wasback has his leads in place, while JETFIRE infuse a bouncy bassline. The melody is indelible and it’s the notable element which makes the whole track unforgettable. Dharma has always supported the incorporation of folk, traditional sounds into their signings, and “Cathedral” is no exception. The breakdown is easily the highlight of the tune, as the trio Incorporates a choir, some soothing rhythmic guitar and even a flute into the mix.

The single critique one could put forth is the comparative lack of energy to Many of their original productions, such as Reggio’s “Origins” or JETFIRE’s Placebo“. This is largely due to the groovy bassline adopted here, which seems a tad out of place given the bigroom-esque melody. Of course, the mix and master is solid in its own right, but it might have been better as a dark progressive tune (as the buildup hints towards).

All in all, “Cathedral” is still a monster tune from these three, as each artist finds a place and time to shine within the brilliant song.
