PURARI & MAKJ – Beast

June 7, 20193 min read

• PURARI concept, MAKJ on the details
• Excellent climax management in the break
• Hypnotic festival drop

We left behind, positively impressed, the poppish Hardwell track for the summer and suddenly Revealed “rewards” us with two unexpected underground releases in 3 days!

We have the Psy-Trance collaboration featuring Infected Mushrooms, MR.BLACK, and SKAZI, which we will examine in the upcoming days, and this “beast” of a comeback! Sorry for the pun, but I’m excited to see MAKJ back on Revealed. His last apparition was in “Countdown” with Hardwell, a release that many fans would remember (The vocal sample is unforgettable).

Anyway, MAKJ’s comeback is… Subtle. PURARI used his structure, while the American producer worked on the details.

I kinda lost the American producer in the recent times, his style is kaleidoscopic and he’s losing his identity trying out tons of different styles (recently, we have reggaeton, hard dance, trap, hip hop and electro house, for example). In my opinion, the only interesting concept put forward are the productions with Deorro, but the Mexican producer has such a dominant influence that I can’t identify MAKJ’s contributions in those tracks either.

PURARI, on the other hand, is the kind of guy who works a lot behind the scenes and remains underrated, even though his style, as you can notice in “Beast”, is gorgeous. A collab with Waka Flocka Flame and some excellent releases on Peak Hour Music constitute his catalog, but don’t assume him to be a newcomer! He has been around for nine years as Mikey P, then assumed this new alias in 2016.

For how it sounds to me, his style is like a brutal version of MR.BLACK. It uses that Psy bassline supported by aggressive big room leads (and a pinch of Bass House). We can find the same imprint in “Beast”, which is, despite its minimal melody, a real festival weapon. The breakdown introduces one of the best climaxes I’ve heard recently in the genre: it delivers doses of energy with intelligence, slowly escalating into a mastodontic second drop, with more power than expected.

“Beast” is a great release. PURARI and MAKJ presented a festival hit which doesn’t follow the classic clichès but offers his aggressive signature style with a brand new breakdown structure and an efficient drop.
