• Spooky atmosphere, much appreciated
• Unexpected elegance
• Even more unexpected ending
A few years ago, Julian Jordan released “Slenderman” on Spinnin’ Records. Back in the days, I remember that I was amazed by the spooky atmosphere of the song. The Dutch talent managed to create something literally “scary” with a particular lead and a glitched melody. It remained a unique idea through the years… until today.
MARCØ and his track “Fade” brought back the old “Slenderman” vibes that I thought were lost forever. The approach is different, the genre is trap and not electro house, the rhythm is slower, but I felt an impressive amount of deja-vu.
However, the comparison I’m making should not be taken as an insult towards the creativity of MARCØ. This trap artist produced a much more creative track, with various elements that captured my attention. The main piano is exceptional: together with the glitched lead and those solemn chords create a real “horror movie” atmosphere. The bass is not particularly aggressive, but manages to add the right energy in the drop, a part that I found clean and really elegant. There are a lot of intriguing elements here, but instead of writing down a list, I want to focus on the ending.
That part is one of the most genial endings I’ve ever heard. Usually, an EDM song finishes with a sequence of basic percussions… “Fade” effectively “fades” itself with an unexpected distortion that left me speechless. I wasn’t expecting such a surprise!
In conclusion, “Fade” is creative, with a unique atmosphere, an even more unique ending, and tons of personality. Saying that we just like it would be euphemism: if you like creative stuff, this is the song for you.
