85/100
• Great EDM twist from the poppish original
• Amazing melody
• Not the typical progressive sound design
Some tracks have this unique x-factor that immediately defines itself as a quality recording. This was the case with ARTY and Vion Konger’s remix of “Couldn’t be Better” which compelled me to sit down and write this review.
It is amazing how a pop song (which I found generic) can be transformed into a progressive house gem and there are no better artists to do it than ARTY and Vion Konger. The vocalist is uncredited, but I really liked his performance! Dreamy pads, plucks and a smooth piano lead the first part of the break and create a beautiful atmosphere and energy that slowly rises before the first build. When the white noise fades and the bass hits, that’s when we get to hear my favourite part of this track: the melody. It’s conveyed through the main lead with a smooth filter on it which ultimately doesn’t amount to anything too complex, but for me, they hit all the right notes to cause an instant lovely impression.
I was very happy to hear a different soundset from the Matisse & Sadko or Nicky Romero style leads, which in my opinion are overused nowadays. This plucky and elegant lead works amazing by sounding so emotional yet powerful at the same time. I also enjoyed the piano transitions between the drop parts as they always fit great! In summary, we have an amazing progressive house song coming from a forgettable radio-friendly track. It’s fantastic to see that the ARTY is back with some great progressive music after a pop release! In case you missed this hidden gem, I highly recommend you give this a listen if you haven’t done so already.
