While we didn’t listen to all the songs yet, Beyoncè’s soon-to-be-released album “Renaissance” has clear influences from EDM. Considering the success Drake gained from “Honestly, Nevermind”, which included production efforts from the likes of &ME and Rampa, Black Coffee, and more. High hopes have begun the trajectory of Electronic music at such a higher level due to these recent bigger projects. More and more underground acts are teaming up with mainstream stars and the results, as we have seen, are often surprisingly effective. Beyoncè seems to be the latest point in this expanding list of “open-minded” creators willing to foray into experimental endeavors.
The lead single “Break My Soul” pays homage to Robin S’ “Show Me Love” with a disco vibe, thus immediately injecting dance music’s presence into the aforementioned album. Yet it doesn’t end here, with juicier facts having been revealed later. Skrillex and Honey Dijon have also been confirmed in the roster of producers involved, further with Daft Punk collaborator and pioneer Giorgio Moroder joining the party for “Summer Renaissance”, which will probably sample one of his works.
Evidently, the pop realm is slowly recognizing that top-notch producers can make a difference, especially when these reputed acts are looking for experimentations. This, in turn, makes me happier because it’s amazing to see the spotlight on people who often work “behind the curtains”, barely even mentioned in credits. A great opportunity has arisen for all producers out there, and I hope that the hype from both the mainstream and underground world for “Renaissance” will be rewarded with similar successful compilations!
