Kieran Hill & LauraBrown – Blame On Me

June 6, 20222 min read

• Experimental Future House sound
• Glitchy and bass house influences
• A lively vocal accompanying

Today I am quite elated to be doing this review because genuinely I believe that Kieran Hill, the 18 y/o British producer might be a new name to you since he’s mostly releasing as an indie producer (notable exceptions being “Indestructible” on Quantum Records and “In Your Heart” on DIFFERENT Record).

His style commenced as the instantly recognizable Future Bounce sound, intermingled with hints of Electro, often heard on labels such as FHC and Hexagon. As of his recent releases, there is a gradual shift towards something new that I prefer. It has a lot of potential!

Kieran’s spry signature is particularly interesting in “Where We Go”, where it reminded me of Deorro’s masterpiece “Five Hours” tailored onto a progressive drop, and in today’s protagonist “Blame On Me”, there’s an industrious vocal from LauraBrown, the release mixes Future House with an explosive and glitchy sequence, greatly oriented towards Bass House. There are tons of fascinating details to unravel here, especially when I started to focus on the complex grooves in the drop, with abrupt distortions and little tweaks… the outcome was entertaining and a standout, thanks to its massive bassline and superlative efforts poured onto the percussions. There’s enough fun factor packed here, especially awaiting in the final drop!

“Blame On Me” breaks away from the usual generic rules of Future House in a radical way, and brings forth a style that could grow and capture more audience, something that happened with the likes of Curbi or Mo Falk. The genre, often trapped in its rigid standards, needs further experimenters like Kieran Hill.
