• Huge similarities with “Destiny’s” melody

• Interesting sound design, the production has potential
When making music, sometimes it feels like everything is already invented: you make a good melody and, after some time working on it, you realize that you have heard it before. Then, you Shazam it and… voilà, it wasn’t your melody after all! I’m not sure if this was what happened to Warren and Ryan Zo while making “Eyes Wide Open”, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. Coincidence or not, this unfortunately similarity between the main melody of their collab I’m analyzing and the one of Nicky Romero and Deniz Koyu’s “Destiny” heavily influenced this review. Then you’ll probably think something like “oh, Beatmad, you are always roasting Revealed and their artists and blah, blah, blah…“, and you will be completely wrong. I have nothing against Hardwell, Warren, Ryan Zo, Reynolds, Revealed or Radar, what happened this time is that I chose “Eyes Wide Open” because I liked it and only after a few listenings I realized that I had heard that melody before. With this said, let’s get straight into the review.
The break doesn’t stand out because its personality or originality, but it fits the standards of the genre and it’s certainly beautiful, while Kyle Reynolds’ delightful vocal is a real gem, making the whole section definitively enjoyable. Pads, guitars, pianos, arpeggiators… Progressive house is, sadly, not evolving these days: it’s really uncommon to see people experimenting with different sounds and rhythms on this genre, and it’s a pity.
Talking about the drop, I must say that the sound is extremely convincing: the bass is on point and the leads are wide and powerful, while the kick feels punchy and well placed in the mix. The melody… well, I’m sorry guys, but it’s too similar to the “Destiny’s” one. It feels bad, because it could be a really good drop, but this “little” detail ruins all the track.
We are humans and all of us fail most of the times, so I want to think that this was a coincidence that ruined my experience with a well-made production. As Warren has proven lots of times his abilities and Ryan Zo seems to be an interesting upcoming talent, let’s hope they will deliver a surprising product, to compensate!
