The initiating day of the April month is Friday and well.. artists aren’t fooling around. We have names such as Hardwell, Martin Garrix, Kura, and more in this first edition of Weekly Roundup from the second quarter of the year.

Hardwell – Into The Unknown (Alternative Perspective)

Before you proceed to feel puzzled, don’t. There’s already a greatly detailed review from my colleague out there, yet I felt the urge to share my two cents. Here goes.

It’s no surprise that the biggest headliner’s choice of new signature would be driving/peak-time techno, which has popularly thrived and got the title of future rave among the crowd these days.

“Into The Unknown” deploys warehouse rumbling kicks, an encompassing saw synth that very much is familiar in this domain (used popularly by Afterlife artists). Squelching acid and stabs affirm the Breda-based artist’s affection for forging a darker and gritty sound that would go off both in the boiler room and mainstage. Quite a brilliant choice for reviving in these modern times, I must say.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Vini Vici, MATTN – Cafe Del Mar

Reviving classics should be left alone unless there’s some boldly creative idea bringing something to the table.

In this somewhat mundane spin on Energy 52’s Ibizan trance anthem, the original melody is present for the namesake, while an electro-house beat with a psytrance variation gets played over afterward.

Comparing these to say, Tale Of Us’s renaissance remix, where the duo stuck to their progressive and minimal demeanor, this version of the evergreen comes off as a stale remake.

Martin Garrix, Mesto – Limitless
78/100

A long time in the making, long-time buddies Martin Garrix and Mesto finally sorted out their collaboration.

“Limitless” brings forth a muted synth lead packed in a playful groove, with a simpler breakdown that opens up a softer pad synth until the final climax happens. For the ingenuity shown in the drop, this song deserves some points.

Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs – Blood In The Snow
85/100

Known for his reputed vocal and songwriting efforts, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs put together the jazzy and fluently flowing “Blood In The Show”.

Composed with an intriguing presence of brassy synths and a bassline and percussive cadence seemingly inspired right out of a blues song, this electronica effort is a lush gem.

Kura, VINNE – We House You
75/100

Returning to the Revealed recordings coincidentally as its label owner, Kura came back after a two years absence on the imprint.

Synergizing with the fresh talent VINNE, “We House You” goes along the typical tech house route with fair amounts of FXs sprinkled in. The sub-heavy FM bassline constitutes the drop, while a vocal repeats over to hold onto the energy. A rhythmic outcome, although nothing unpredictable.

Diplo, Miguel, John Summit – Don’t Forget My Love
82/100

The original song got some distaste from me, but I knew a remix would get my appreciation. John Summit took up the duty, giving his melodic techno makeover of the summer offering from Diplo.

Introducing a refined ambiance and a steady low-end, this melodic rendition sticks to a more emotional and sublime blueprint that would suit the dancefloors.
