Skan – Sadaweya (feat. Highdiwaan)

November 8, 20182 min read

90/100

The last month, during a Q&A, a fan suggested me to check out Skan. I don’t remember his name, but I sure am grateful. I discovered a fantastic trap duo. Today I’m proud to give them a well deserved 90 for “Sadaweya”. Released via the always trustful Tribal Trap, this tune made me fall in love.

Traditionally, in the case of 90+ ratings, I like to explain why I decided to be so generous… The easiest way to do so is with a simple list.

  1. The vocal by Highdiwaan. Sweet and mysterious, like a magical chant, during the first part of the breakdown… Then energetic during the buildup, and finally becoming brutal and distorted. I’ve rarely been so impressed by a simple loop of few words. Excellent work by this French vocalist.

  2. The reggaeish vibes. It’s hard to find them in the trap genre, but they are absolutely refreshing! They are almost a signature element of Skan, being present in other productions of them, but in this case, they perfectly amalgamate with the vocal, creating a hypnotic mood!

  3. The drop. I love surprises. The second drop, that switches twice between an unexpected hard bounce approach and the initial structure left me with goosebumps. Innovative and intriguing.

  4. The story. Unfortunately, I don’t have much space left for telling the “lore” behind “Sadaweya”, but it will be a series of songs narrating a story about a samurai, Toudema.  Quoting SKAN, “This track is the beginning, Toudema is watching his brother bleeding on the floor and his house burning. He is holding the head of his brother and then he starts singing.”

In conclusion, “Sadaweya” has all the elements necessary for one of the best ratings of 2018. Chapeau to Skan for this extremely interesting production, we can’t wait to hear the follow-ups!!
