Declain – Disco Champ

April 29, 20222 min read

• Disco vibes smoothly merged with Declain’s Progressive
• Fetching chopped vocal loop
• Vivacious drop melody, with a retro sheen

Over the years, my admiration for the Dutch talent has steadily increased, as shown across many other reviews dedicated on his music that we shared. Varying from Festival Progressive to more experimental and creatively bolder ideas such as “Universal Language” or “Dance In 84”, there’s a lot that the young creator offered to his listeners while satisfying variating sonic palates.

The results vary, yet there’s a touch of vintage in his music, and that’s clearly evident in “Disco Champ”, the newest upload on Blasterjaxx’s Maxximize records. There is much ode, especially in the vocal and main lead, paid to house music’s radiating predecessor Disco, and a clever mix of Declain-infused Progressive drop section that converges smoothly with the rather unusual aura of the tune… At the very first listen, my mind was all made up: I had to review this idiosyncratic production.

In an era where many progressive produces just try to bring home the paycheck without attempting something new, Declain is actively transforming his trademark taking best of both worlds, with inspirations from the past and adding a completely new personalistic spin upon that… I’ve remarked the same in the “Universal Language” review, and I will stand upon it as my amazement grew after listening. It isn’t any easy to work with such different materials and coming up with a cohesive and appreciable sound.

The outcome seems, in fact, very natural with chopped vocal additives that both feel influenced from the past and the present, a lead that subtly leans more towards Electro, a melody that emanates energy and funkiness at the same time.. “Disco Champ” holds its balance like a champ indeed, achieving this insane result that quite clearly must have took plenty efforts!
