Alex is my name, I had the immense pleasure of being a part of the EDM Reviewer staff for the past year. There I became part of an amazing work environment driven by passion and desire to do something more for the music we love.

I joined the blog with the goal of bringing diversity across the Reviews Board with genres some followers have been asking for a while, primarily focusing on Euphoric Hardstyle and Melodic Dubstep. The EDM Reviewer himself rewarded me with the Allax’s Observatory, a ‘special’ side project of the blog run entirely by myself, and the creative freedom of getting out reviews free of boundaries such as wait time, length limits, and meeting the expectations of what genres I would have to cover.

Getting out my thoughts on the music I listen to the most and starting topic of discussions with other expert people, while also receiving recognition by established acts, truly gives a high and immense satisfaction. I have been craving to release a summarizing article on this particular year for its entirety, and it’s with honor that I finally put it all together.

2018 has been an amazing year for Dance and Electronic Music under all aspects, and it’s time for me to release my final opinions to wrap up this piece of my musical history as an active listener and amateur passionate writer.

The main goal of this list is giving deserving songs released between the the 25th of December 2017 and the 23rd of December 2018 more exposure and guiding listeners and readers with aligning tastes and mentalities to the discovery of new favorites.

The lists encompasses a substantial amount of sub-genres and style of the bigger Electronic Music concept: euphoric hardstyle, classic progressive house, midtempo, tech house, future bass etc…

This list has been compiled step by step throughout the entire year and it has been updated countless times, as well as checked by the EDM Reviewer staff and additional key supporters of the platform and members of different sub-communities in the Electronic Music mega community who also contributed in redirecting me to their personal favorites to add to the ranking.

Ultimately, though, this list is still one hundred percent opinion-based, and being as dictated by time and exposure as it is, and there is a high chance someone else’s favorite songs will not even be mentioned here.

It is next to impossible to keep up with all the releases coming from the different corners of this ever-mutating music world. It is even harder to keep up with these alone and narrow them down to only one hundred. Hard to know about the most niche underground rising star when keeping eyes on multiple scenes and musical landscapes.

With that being said, it’s time for me to shout out some important people.

Every single person and community that at the end of every year puts effort into coming up with a ranking deserves respect, appreciation, and recognition, as it is so hard to pull of such a task with the thousands of options to choose from.

Shoutout to Axelade for his work throughout the entire year and his curated top lists of Hardstyle and Hardcore songs that have been released for the second year in a row.

Shoutout to EDM Charts and Top Music Charts for their work in 2018 and their respective top 100 rankings.

A massive shoutout to TopEDM for his incredible work throughout the years in making people discover more and more incredible music, and for having released year-end top lists for 2016 and 2017 – the latter of the two inspired me in writing this article – but for having put together the greatest video ranking list in history as well.

Lastly, another shoutout goes to the Trance Reddit community, ‘Trancit’, for consistently involving and improving the Trance community and for their top lists released throughout the past six-and-still-counting years of the best Trance songs.

I’m thankful to the EDM Reviewer blog for having as a part of the team and for helping me in the release of this massive project. A massive thank you goes to all the dear readers that support us every week and engage in interesting conversations that help us all polishing and refining our tastes in music.

The biggest appreciations go to every single act out there, from the uprising, talented producers that bring us hope for the future such as Shapov, 1788-L, and MYST, to the mainstaying luminaries like deadmau5, Hardwell, Porter Robinson, and Headhunterz that contribuited in enstablishing the Electronic Music world as a shared harbor for every type of person.

Our view on 2019 is optimistic to say the least. Contrary to what many say, Electronic Music keeps getting better each year, like an ever-rising melody. It’s all about perspective.

For the purpose of getting more artists and listeners involved with the discussion, here are some honorable mentions and songs that more than once have been considered for the final cut but that did not make it for any reasons.
