Aitor Hertz – Sweet ‘N Low

May 22, 20213 min read

• FHC influenced structure
• Clever workings in the lead synths
• Standardized vocal presence

Some forty-eight hours ago, I revealed about my “listener’s block” and how it is struggling to find anything interesting to write about the big, important releases that come in great numbers every Friday or so. I also mentioned about “exceptions”, usually unknown gems that give a lot of inspiration, and today I will keep talking about one of them, “Sweet ‘N Low”.

This review is somewhat old, since the kind guys at Swerve Collective sent it a month ago as a submission (my recommendation is sending music before the release date, enough to spare us time to organize!), but I vividly remember my happiness when listening to this creation from Aitor Hertz for the first time.

The young guy on the highlight today may be familiar, if you happen to be a fan of Future House Cloud/Music, since he released many notable songs of his discography via the said network. I feel some FHC classic influences, especially the high-pitched vocal, almost a standard now in the genre. Pay attention however, as I mark it being outdating sooner with its overexploited nature.

Then, a solid Mike William type happy Future Bounce drop greets the ear, leaving me satisfied for two major elements (apart from the obvious fact that I prefer this style). Aitor Hertz added a playful, almost cartoonish lead that emphasizes on its “bounciness factor” in “Sweet ‘N Low”, and then tinkered with the sudden switches and a Zedd-like small segment in the following breakdown. Manipulation with the lead left me amused, saving the bassline from the daunting menace of sounding predictable or monotony. Oh, did I forgot to say that the base has an upbeat vibe, perfect for the summer?

Coming to a conclusion, “Sweet ‘N Low” is a nice, entertaining project that certainly left with good impressions to write about: the right amount of experimentations along side a structure that doesn’t dodge away from seizing the moment. The vocals aren’t my favourite, but that’s just subjective.
