By this time around, Declain is no stranger to our blog. He has been one of the hottest names around for a while, as the young producer has managed to completely renew and renovate his signature on several occasions, often surfing between different genres. Most notable example, which were reviewed by us, are “Dance In The ‘84” and the fairy-tale like “Universal Language” with the talented songstress Elle Vee. His stable presence on Maxximize is a sign that his talent is getting further recognized, and let’s see if the Dutch creator managed to hit the target for yet another time.
If one has to begin explaining Declain’s approach, it has to be via the melodies. The said hooks share a sense of uniqueness in them, with a myriad of playfulness, sparkling and vibrant nature altogether. Lately, he has headed towards the vintage soundscapes of Disco or synthpop in general, mixed together with modernity of Electro House.
This is not the first synergy that the mentioned have done so. Over a couple of years or so, the Blasterjaxx owned imprint signed an outcome of their studio joint-effort, titled “Eyes Shut”. It did get a sequel last year with the said “Universal Language”, which makes today’s highlight the third conjunction shared along with each other.Fun fact: we reviewed all the three mentioned tracks.
While the style has changed and there are differences, say in the first collaboration it was more aggressive while the one following it goes for an uplifting mood. Its successor however, goes with a dreamy and emotional ballad-esque vibe, thanks to the credited voice. Accompanied with wide background pads with a tinge of flanger (noticeable from his previous works as well), which quickly pick up the pace when the tight riser-snare drums enter the scene. With this sudden jolt, the drop enters with an upbeat and lively hook. It draws a parallel with Future House like pattern, having a bouncy up-down rhythm to make it more engaging. While all this repeats before the conclusion again, the second breakdown scores a charming breakbeat segment to break what could have been a linear groove.
“Favorite Person” has qualities which makes it preferable than usual releases, yet it does fade slightly in comparison with the preceding “Eyes Shut”. Overall, it’s a nice energizer to listen during these warmer days, and yes, Declain did single-handedly strike an enticing composition for his fan-base!
