Throwback of The Month – Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – Stereo Love

March 28, 20212 min read

Nobody expected this, right? After the iconic “Seek Bromance” and the Daft Punk tribute… The next throwback is this? Yes.

As we approach conclusion of this month, with temperatures soaring nearly everywhere, it is perhaps the best time to reminisce of perhaps what is one of the most megalithic (and nostalgic) summer hit in EDM. Today’s selection also holds dear to me, as it is one of my all-time favourite records (impressive, considering my indulgence mostly lies with neck-breaking tracks). Amusingly, even if its melody remains exemplary and almost everyone can sing it, most people attest to have never knowing the title. Strange, but let’s continue.

My encounter with “Stereo Love” occurred in Reddit, as the said site is notorious for being a gold mine of memes to describe strangest of situations. Yes, it may sound unreal, but search about “Stereo Love Memes” in spare time. All this craze aside, Edward Maya is a Romanian producer (and the only, most certainly) who holds a unbreakable record with his productions that have achieved hundred of millions in streaming statistics (and rising). His entire career was catapulted into stardom with this one-time hit, having received remixes from names like Wildstylez, Timmy Trumpet and more.

The evergreen song has an iconic hook, most notably its leaning towards ethnic Romanian influences with amalgamation of Trance and commercial Deep House, which was at its peak during later half of 2000s. Add to this, the arresting vocal presence of Vika Jigulina rendered the instrumental livelier, turning it into an unforgettable gem from yesterday. While the mentioned producer attempted to re-capture the magic in sequels like “Desert Rain”, perhaps nothing could ever displace the standards that “Stereo Love” set firmly in the spectrum of Dance music.

What are you thoughts about this classic? Also which other similar songs do you recommend? Let us know in the comments!
