3 Stranger Things Remixes (Spoiler Free!)

June 17, 20223 min read

Before you irk away from reading this, here goes the disclaimer: there won’t be any spoilers for the Netflix show “Stranger Things”; far from it, we will be talking about the remixes that popped out after the fourth season began. It brought back the synth-pop classic “Running Up That Hill” from Kate Bush into charts after four decades, while the original soundtrack received further twists. Thus, we have selected three remixes that impressed us the most.

Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill (ANGEMI Remix)
79/100

ANGEMI traded his “Italian Bass” signature for a while and picked up the more popular Melodic Techno style for this twist on “Running Up That Hill”. Must admit, the ricocheting synths he used to sound a lot like speeded-up Electro House, fitting well with the original vocals. The wobbling lead is the dominant character here in this production, and it manages to ascertain that climax doesn’t bore, except for a segment in the breakdown where I wanted to focus more on the vocal. Great remix, with personality and catchy attributes.

Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill (Lookas Remix)
71/100

Lookas’ decision to try his hands on the 80’s single is different: slowing things down and emphasizing the vocal, he embedded a darker and sinister bassline. Again, more Techno-oriented (and I don’t prefer it as such, since the American alias isn’t particularly producing the said genre), but it deserves a listen solely because of the aura it emanates. All the elements are composed of this eerie timbre that befits perfectly with the tone of the TV show, and the result ultimately sounds quite original!

Stranger Things Theme (Felix Cartal’s After Dark Remix)
82/100

Alright, that is it with “Running Up That Hill”: the veteran Felix Cartal has reworked the OST! The frenetic rhythm of this version holds onto the familiar minimalism with a hard-hitting set of percussions. The transition between the actual soundtrack and the remix’s components is rather smooth, almost catching me by surprise. This is just the material for an elegant spin on a pattern we all have heard at least once while adhering to the “strange” Stranger Things tonality. All without exceeding, and keeping things simple.
