Glow Records presents Miami Sampler 2020

March 19, 20205 min read

Glow Records is one of those independent labels that constantly managed to impress us. Born under the influence of the huge channel ElectroHouseMixes, the upcoming imprint keeps delivering quality releases with a solid roster. Creative picks, often progressive house, respecting the newcomers (often giving extremely professional outcomes): is what we like about Glow. We have spoken about a couple of their regulars in the previous months, but today we are doing something bigger: analyzing their Miami Sampler, fully loaded with six productions.

First of all, the cover was amazing: it reminded us of the Protocol Sampler from a couple of years back: splendidly done!

Overall
85/100

The overall high rating, higher than the songs’ average, is partially motivated by the management of the EP.

The selection is balanced, following more or less the catalogue ratio: Three Progressive House, Two Tranceroom and one Big Room/Tribal idea. Various shapes of the sub-genres are explored by familiar and new names, with a couple of unexpected experiments paired with effective structures.

The Sampler maintains brevity but perfectly extends the Glow Records’ essence: it has evidently built by someone who knows their job. Excellent selection process displayed here.

David Bulla & Marcel Aquila – Roots
84/100

Both producers are experienced, and “Roots” has that Dubvision-ish attitude of striking Progressive House. The build-up delivers the energy, but the tune never discards of its underlying sweet tone. Genuinely crafted piece with a melody that captures our hearts.

MR. HAUNT X & Kaotix – Cover It Up
78/100

Here comes the “big-bad bully” of the EP, the Big Room W&W-style song that destroys everything with its aggressive savoir-faire. These names are new for us, but their efforts were very intriguing, especially the concluding hardstyle part: what a pleasant surprise! There are some details that could have been better embedded, the output gets a tad chaotic in some segments, but “Cover It Up” was fun to listen!

Gaspar & THRML – Broken Heart
70/100

Quality Tranceroom work here, as the two have exhibited in recent times. The vocal is extremely catchy and alluring, and almost unexpected considering the aggressive attitude of the breakdown, but the two elements coexisted without major hiccups. The melody though left us with some doubts: it didn’t click, unfortunately.

SHKHR X Venro – Mojito (Bangerific Edit)
75/100

Even if we know these producers, we weren’t prepared for “Mojito”, the unexpected surprise of the Sampler. It’s an experimentation that brings some Tribal Room elements and mixes them with tropical vibes, a unique lead and a hypnotic vocal loop. Personally, the drop’s sequence isn’t a thing that can entertain in the long run, it was difficult to grasp, but the idea deserves praise. The breakdown, in addition, is a wonderful example of different mentalities of the creators. It’s a pass for us, but do not underrate “Mojito”!

Holden Redd – End Of The Road
87/100

We’re keeping our eyes on this young talent, he was our initial pick for “Focus”, because there is a 90+ risk in many of his ideas! “End Of The Road” is lacking some meticulousness in the final sound design, but its magical aura makes it our personal favorite of the sampler. A calm, emotional vocal unites with a crazy bassline and a melody that entered into our hearts in the unforgettable drop sequence… What a progressive house banger, capable to constantly maintain the dynamism level high!

CGVE & Bass Louder – Be The One
81/100

Shout out to the emotional vocal, the signer definitively gave a fundamental help here! CGVE and Bass Louder built a very enjoyable blueprint around it, concluding the project with a happier progressive house drop! The melody is very hooking, while the lead was a bit too invasive for our tastes… Nonetheless, a good way to end the selection, with a song that differentiates with the other two Progressive House ones, avoiding repetitive outputs.
