• “Double Drop” experimental structure
• Forgettable vibes in the breakdown
• Intelligent example of tasting the water
With this specific title, one could certainly expect that the limelight would fall on a flute… Well, kind of.
Electrick Village impressed me with an experimental Electro House creation that tries to explore the clichés of the so-called “flute music”. The QR Network, a couple of months ago, showed in its “Trend Alert” how producers are blatantly copying Blinders’ genuine concepts, where the wind instruments are utilized in a particular way in drops. A trend that, as always, translates from rather being creative towards sheer overuse, prosaic and ultimately irritating.
I’m not really into the domain of “flute music“, but damn, “Flute” devises that freshness in this platter that shows how the duo is trying to add their personality into this style! The release from GL Music Publishing introduces its catchy hook with a simple flute, and then adds a secondary Electro lead, alternating bassline and attitude as requisite. It’s the “double drop” structure, with continuous swapping between two different styles, a strategy that I personally appreciate very much because it’s difficult to master.
Unfortunately, the breakdown resorts to an untimely simplicity… The melody plays around in a standard structure, which at least doesn’t show any over-exploited Arabic vibes, but still leaves a forgettable sensation. A vocal or a flute solo could have saved the day here, but nonetheless the minimal tone is not fully compensated.
From Denmark, Electrick Village definitively have shown some luminous potential today. Their experiment is logically just tasting the water of “Flute Music”, but in an adept way. I really like how artists are always capable to add their own ideas to the apparently “explored” concept. “Flute” isn’t all perfect and foolproof, but it’s totally worth a listen.
