Blasterjaxx – Blackout

September 24, 20193 min read

• Formulaic but energetic schematics
• Standout breakdown segment
• Tantalizing drop, rich in dynamism and aggressiveness

This year has witnessed major developments for many renowned artists, but one particular act has pushed their limits. For the Dutch heavyweights Blasterjaxx, the word “hiatus” has become absolutely anonymous. Fresh off from their latest album, which has become a strong contender for the “Album of the year”, the duo-logy has denied any further intervals and straight away revealed yet another red-hot single. Titled as “Blackout”, this production is another satisfactory Big Room work. This one surely makes us reminisce of the earlier heavy-hitting tracks from this dynamic pair.

At the onset of this year, we got the announcement for their oncoming “Perspective”, which didn’t unveil until the end of July. The mammoth of an album listed over twenty striking compositions, which vivified the anthem-like sound we all have appreciated over years. But that was not all, as the deuce boasted their experimentation with the underground-inspired “Royal Beluga” or the optimistic tune “Children Of Today”. We also saw them divulging in the genre of Progressive House, which became their focus. “Let The Music Take Control”, along with the leading twosome W&W, became an instant numero-uno for us, as the thundering festival instrument gave us no option but to reward it more than ninety score on its review!

Now, about our thoughts on today’s topic of discussion. Starting right off with a high-end deficit kick rolling along with a male vocal snippet, the drop synths slowly come into the scenery, as the section makes it way without delay. The following segment brings in a tantalizing riff, assisted with the booming and familiar screeching synths. Proceeding from this, the breakdown segment brings arrays of orchestral strings, enriching the timbre and atmosphere. This gets accentuated with the climactic showdown of the supersaws, and thanks to the melodic hook, this part efficiently manages to emanate the “Hands up” moment. Quickly racking up the pace, the riser ascends amidst stabbing hits of synths and the same vox, finally escalating and returning to the rushing portion of the track.

In a few words, “Blackout” may settle on formulaic schematics, but doesn’t disappoint on this context. A concoction of the attention-catching and festival compatible elements impresses quite well, which Blasterjaxx guarantee every single time.
