3 Are Legend x W&W – Khaleesi

July 29, 20193 min read

• More W&W than expected
• Strongly festival-oriented
• Originally a “Komodo” rework, then modified because of copyright issues

Capturing the attention among other releases this Friday, we are dealing with
yet another significant team-up. Today we will be expressing our thoughts about the collaboration between the supergroup “3 Are Legends” and the leading Dutch force W&W. Named after the beloved character of “Daenerys Targaryen” (from the superbly popular TV Show & book series “Game Of Thrones”), this Electro House track surprised us with its explosive approach! Originally, this was a “Komodo” rework, but, apparently, Mauro Picotto wasn’t happy to see his legendary hit modified and played at Tomorrowland without any credit given or the necessary license… You can recognize the “Komodo” melody in the second drop, in fact, even if slightly modified.

Funny enough, 3 Are Legends have been an elusive act in the scene, becoming active only during the period of DJ Mag polls. This specific triad, involving Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike along with Steve Aoki, unveiled their Bounce/Psy-Trance inspired rework for “Crowd Control” last year in September. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the other Dutch dyad has kept themselves busy with regularly scheduled releases. “Let The Music Take Control”, their joint-effort with native luminaries Blasterjaxx, became an instant favourite for us this year. The presence of the pair definitely makes today’s instrumental even more engaging.

Starting with the breakdown, we get introduced to the instantly familiar atmospheric and vocal-laden sound, followed with buzzing W&W melodic supersaws. The drop follows next, bringing in the aggressive and dirty Big Room synths, playing a steadily striking riff. The next breakdown takes the cue, focusing on vocoded snippets (typical W&W style), and without much change in arrangements, the final segment arrives with a different twist. Unlike the preceding one, it proceeds in a canorous and harmonious way. It reminded us of NWYR strongly, however it certainly embeds a distinctive nature to the otherwise formulaic structure of the song.

For the conclusion, all we can say is that “Khaleesi”, despite being born as a simple “Komodo” rework, dominates with festival vibes and would be a delight for many listeners. However, the schematics and the design pertains more to W&W. Nonetheless, a solid addition to the discographies of the artists involved!
