DVBBS – GOMF feat. BRIDGE

• A house with just the foundation
• Hypnotic vocal
• Undeveloped concept

“GOMF”? Alrightttttt…
I decided to present you the new production from the Canadian duo DVVBS featuring the vocal from Bridge, today. I don’t know what I had in mind when I decided to agree to review it, I guess I wanted to create a classic bash & rant that some of you guys always ask for. It’s easy, I don’t like ghostproduced artists, people who build a career using the work of someone else and lie to their fans, and DVVBS are an easy target, being proved (with contract) to have used Vorwerk for their biggest hits like “Tsunami”and “Stampede”. In addition, they have recently entered a strange pop phase, with a few Spotify-friendly releases that honestly doesn’t appeal to me or to many old fans.

“GOMF” tried to be different, however. They hired a great vocalist, Bridge, who evidently put a lot of effort in delivering a hypnotic, sensual performance… Accompanied by a minimal, groovy bassline. The effect is hypnotic, I appreciated it in the beginning but after 30 seconds waiting for the following section, I understood that “GOMF” was only that: a bass loop. There is a trumpet sample, played a couple of times, but nothing more.

I understand that some people appreciate this minimal kind of EDM, and I respect that. Honestly, I don’t like it, I think that “GOMF” is too simple and it’s missing many details that could have improved the initial, interesting idea. The groovy bassline could have been enriched by jazzy sounds, or rhythm variations, new percussions, maybe a chopped vocal section… But it rather maintains being flat and linear, giving me a monotonous sensation. Is it a summer track? Nope. A return to underground sounds? Nope. For me it’s simply a lack of ideas, the producers involved didn’t manage to “develop” the initial concept.

The result is forgettable, like every DVBBS release since “Switch”. “GOMF”, please Get Outta My Face!
