Maddix – Zero

February 6, 20192 min read

• Standard structure
• Characteristic leads
• Powerful drops

“Bigroom Never Dies” was one of the most popular EDM slogans last year, and it seems like this year it won’t either die. Revealed continues trusting in some of his already known protégés, whose Big Room music started sounding very fresh, but after a few time it’s starting to become monotone and predictable.

This is the case, for example, of the creator of our today’s pick, Maddix. I used to love his style, but lately, he is risking of being unoriginal, because his aggressive leads don’t cause surprises anymore. As lots of Big Room tracks these days, “Zero” starts directly with a build up, reaching the first drop before the first minute. At this point, his characteristic lead starts playing, having a solid kick over it and adding some groovy percussions in the last bars. The drop is nothing too special in my opinion, it just does its job being powerful and aggressive.

Talking about the break, it follows the typical Maddix structure, with plucky sounds introducing it before the huge supersaws start playing. Anyway, the chord progression is not that bad, so it’s acceptable, but in 2019 we expect something more from a “big” artist like Maddix. The second build-up deserves a special mention, I really love that way of creating tension and expectation before the drop.

Another time, we have a new release on the Revealed main label which is worse, in my opinion, than most of the Community Releases. It’s quite a good production, of course, but I’m sure that if Maddix wasn’t on the title it would remain as another standard Big Room track. Revealed is losing some ground in the last months, and they might continue like this if they don’t focus more on music quality rather than in names.
