92/100

As the eventful month of March ends, the number of quality releases have been staggeringly amazing. Legendary Dutch mastermind Armin Van Buuren has unveiled another beautiful and uplifting production, this time teaming up with the renowned one-half of the erstwhile duo Hard Rock Sofa, Shapov. The ensnaring amalgamation of trance and progressive house has resulted in “The Last Dancer”, and the vibrancy of this tune radiates brightly with the hypnotic melody and swirling groove. Released in Armada’s esteemed sub-label Armind, this song is one of the most promising trance releases of this year!

This collaboration was first premiered by Shapov in his Tomorrowland set of Belgium, about eight months ago. After the first play, the track undoubtedly gathered attention and support from various popular artists and listeners as well. “The Last Dancer” aesthetically explores the subtle attributes of progressive house, without breaking away from the domain of trance.

Starting from the first second, this production hints the listener for incoming tides of energy. After the brief intro gives away, a well-timed sonorous riser steps in, introducing the second segment of the introduction. The tone intensifies in this second half of intro, with an iconic trance saw synth complementing it. With this, the drop synths slowly materialize, escalating the atmosphere. Another riser sweeps in, bringing up the synths with it and firing in the delectable and soul-lifting drop.

The drop simply reforms the scenario. With a mesmerizing trance melody, and the harmonics created by the perfect mixture of progressive elements, ends up delivering a dynamic and emotional mood, simultaneously. Words aren’t enough to accurately describe the drop, it presents a wholesome experience to the ears.

Fading away, the drop transitions to the serene and enthralling breakdown. The pace of the track slows down, bringing up female vocal orchestral chorus coupled with violins in the background. Without compensating the stamina, the breakdown gradually escalates in tempo, intensifying the drop synths with precision. Gaining back the traction, the riser strides in for the final playback of the well-crafted drop.

“The Last Dancer” surely measures up to gargantuan levels, exceeding expectations and ensuring itself as another gem of the trance genre has to offer.
