84/100

  • Gorgeous vocals
  • Unique blend between future bass and hybrid trap
  • But a bit too short

Usually we don’t take the time to review solo tracks because we’re trying to cover most of the notable tracks in our Weekly Recap here on this site. However, I came across this track and thought it was worth revisiting to highlight one of these up and coming talents. For the second half of 2018, Vosai has been releasing some very intriguing remixes that blur the line between future bass and hybrid trap. With this latest release on Lacuna Records, Vosai has partnered up with Veronica Bravo to bring us his heaviest track yet.

The track starts off with some pulsating pads leading into the beautiful, harmonizing vocals from Veronica Bravo. The percussion ramps up in a meaningful and unobtrusive manner into the drop which something I dare call, cathartic. Music, as with any other form of entertainment, is based on the creation and release of tension. The quality of the track is always based that balancing act of creating the right amount of tension and then having it comes to a meaningful resolution and here, the combination of the aggressive trap beat along with the harsh, future bass chords come together to create a track that makes you want to close your eyes and get lost in.

On the flipside, after a few listen-throughs, I began to feel like the track was a bit too short and that there could have been more added to the breakdowns to draw out as much emotion and power from the drops as possible. Credit should be given to the fact that this song does indeed have two separate verses for each of the breakdowns, which is always welcome in EDM, where some artist notoriously copy and past the first half to make the second half.

Since we are The QR Network and interviews are sort of our thing, we wanted to reach out to Vosai to see what he had to say about his track and he said that he went into the track with the mindset of creating a track with “emotional and powerful vibe” to it. He also teased that a lot of his unreleased music also has this “darker energy” that you hear in this original track, in contrast with some of his remixes which fall closer to the future bass side of the spectrum. He added that while he was inspired by the darker, harder trap artists, he wanted to go for a more commercial and relatable feeling. In response to that, I think that he delivered on those goals and in the end, “Different Angle” is a solid, unique addition to the ever-growing Vosai discography and we are looking forward to seeing where this young talent will take his sound next.

Thanks to Vosai for giving us a bit of insight into this track. You can listen to “Different Angle” here:
