86/100
• Fabolous comeback to progressive house from the Protocol’s boss
• Sweet tones, delicate break with a vibrant climax
• Classic progressive vibes in the drop, making “Duality” a sweet summer track
Today is another fortunate day for us, as we finally get to speak our two cents about the new single from the one and only, Nicky Romero. After teasing his fan-base with multiple teasers and playback, he unveiled his magnificent work preceding Friday. Yes, we are talking about the striking “Duality”, which marks a significant return of the luminary into the progressive house genre. This alluring record has the necessary ingredients, keeping it mellow and at the same time, dynamic enough to amp any festival grounds to massive levels!
Only sixteen days ago, Nicky Romero gave his signature flavour on a delectable collaboration between the renowned Dutchman Afrojack and talented German duo Jewelz & Sparkz. As a result, the original and laid-back/chill poppy production got transformed, and was revamped into emotional and dance-floor ready work. This progressive remix hyped us for the upcoming single even more, and only two days ago we were delighted when the “ID” saw the light of the day. With the pitch “Progressive is back” on full effect in the industry, this particular single has boosted it with flair and style.
With this said, let us jump in for the detailed synopsis.
Many of the readers must be familiar with Nicky’s old works, and this one helps with the remembrance. There is no dearth of the hypnotic vibes, and in this case, the breakdown is the perfect candidate to start with. Showcasing the guitar riff, it encompasses it with a sublime atmosphere. Here the guitar leads the way, as it slicks charmingly for a major duration. However, the cherry is added on the cake with the drop. The drop jumps into action with uplifting chords, the endeared saw synths and off-beat bassline which pumps in the liveliness. This combination surely creates the enchanting harmony and requisite energy. Many people have critiqued that a vocal on top of the instrumental would have been better, which we don’t disagree to, but the components of the songs together add up splendidly. Therefore, no complaints about a voice from our side!
“Duality”, in short, has the ability and potential to provide a pleasurable and splendid experience for our ears, as was expected.
