Sick Individuals & Justin Prime feat. Nevve – Guilty

December 7, 20193 min read

• Sequel to “Not Alone”; we tried to compare the two songs
• Another vocalist, Nevve: great performance
• Entrancing vibes in the Pre-Drop

I love how Sick Individuals are “connecting” some of their songs, using a visually appealing style, added to the musical aspects. “Luna” and “Kodi” had both a planetary landscape in their covers and a similar Electro house drop, for example. In occasion of the release of “Guilty“, their second collaboration with heavyweight Justin Prime, we can see reappearance of the dancer in the artwork of “Not Alone”.

You don’t need to be a whiz to see that “Guilty” is a follow-up synergy of the trio, released on Revealed a few months ago. The method applied is similar: relaxing and sweet breakdown, with a female vocalist, cinematic transition sequence and characteristic drop, fusing a harmonious signature style with a wobbling bassline. It’s an idea that splendidly reworks the SI “melodic” style, and in fact, I’ve preferred “Not Alone” quite a lot in these weeks.

“Guilty” tries to reinvent itself with an appealing melody and a heavier focus on the buildup section, almost enthralling, and by using another singer, Nevve. Her performance was fine, her vocal presence fits well with the calm background, but the lyrics weren’t particularly interesting. I mostly liked the Trance aura of the pre-drop, a fantastic idea that effectively surprises the listener. I clicked less with the melody, compared to “Not Alone”, but simply because the predecessor was outstanding!

Pardon me if I keep comparing “Guilty” and “Not Alone”, but it’s a standard procedure in case of follow-ups. This influenced my experience, but at the same time, I can calmly declare that I had a good time while listening to both of them.

In the end, I’m afraid that “Guilty” will not be at the same high benchmark as “Not Alone”, mostly because of its melody. I didn’t connect with it as much as I wanted. However, I recognize well-executed ideas when I see one: the trio did well on altering an already refined concept, and I have the feeling that we may get a third episode, for when they get the deserved success! Revealed needs this kind of quality.
