Finding Gems in the Quartzo Frequencies EPs [EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE]

June 4, 20185 min read

Quartzo Records, in the past, showed us many interesting releases. The Brazilian label puts out so many songs that keeping the rhythm has become a difficult job for us… Including this triple EP.

Frequencies EP is an already successful project from Quartzo. Last year we got delighted by 16 amazing tracks, divided into 4 mini-EPs. This time, we have 12 of them, from new talents and old friends. We had the chance to premiere them (so get ready for some exclusive music), but firstly, we must show the 12 drops in this mini-mix from Quartzo.

Our analysis can’t include all the song, otherwise, the review will be too long, but we picked our personal top 3 (one for each EP, blue, red and green), plus a bonus one. It hasn’t been easy. Anyway, we are really satisfied by 2018 Frequencies EP: Quartzo Records brought a huge amount of new talents, and most of them worked pretty well!

Here’s our top 3:

3. Jaybox & Justherz – Throw It Down [RED]

80\100

Jaybox is not a new name to us, we’re no stranger to this British producer’s talent thanks to another release on Quartzo (the brutal “Chainsaw”) and his latest collab with STVRLORD (the groovy “Take Control”). Jaybox has partnered with the Peruvian producer, Justherz, and their collective chemistry has lead to a particularly exciting track! This song presents an energetic bouncy drop… It’s pure Quartzo style, reminds us of KURA a bit, with a deeper approach, plus we have a phantasmagoric breakdown. That part impressed us, we weren’t expecting such a delicate and vibrant touch in there! Justherz added his elegance to Jaybox’s aggressiveness, delivering a lethal combo! Excellent, unpredictable and creative idea!

2. TANG – Pursue [BLUE]

82/100

With all the respect with Quartzo, sometimes we feel that there is too much electro house there. Tracks like “Pursue”, even if not really rare to find, bring a certain freshness, highly appreciated by us. TANG made a fantastic work of balance, especially in the buildup: he kept some aggressive “Quartzo vibes”, but delivered a song that stands out from the rest. “Pursue” is future house, the delicate type (notice the calm vocal chops), but it doesn’t clash with the style of the label. The kick, in particular, and the overall aggressive bassline of the drop are extremely interesting: a perfect fusion between power and elegance. An enjoyable and fresh (almost summer-oriented) delivery from this Chinese artist!

1. Vellkovski & Kristian – Crazylo [GREEN]

84\100

Why is “Crazylo” our favourite?

Because it’s (cheap joke) crazy! A fantastic experiment from those two Serbian talents, that made us fall in love since the beginning. In fact, let’s start with the magnificent and mysterious break. An electro house lead (even if quite delicate), accompanies an orchestral structure, then escalates into a more aggressive buildup. Its balanced and creative approach immediately made a bell ring in our heads… That was fresh! The drop is gold for our ears: progressive, electro house, big room… All together with the vibrant vocal. An elegance and courage that we rarely find around! “Crazylo” is unique, a pure concentrate of geniality and intriguing vibes. We are in love with this collaboration and it’s definitely the most interesting song of the EPs for us. Chapeau.

Bonus track:
Requenze & Harddope – Double Dem [GREEN]

80\100

“Double Dem“ is a song that amazed us for its creativity, and our little bonus track for you guys. We rarely review trap, but ”Double Dem“ has that fascinating hybrid atmosphere between dark electro house and trap drop (with that metallic lead, so gorgeous). It deserves a special mention! We found the structure a bit dispersive, but the overall result has a lot of personality and charisma… A little gem for the most experts!
